Nvidia +2.7%, MongoDB −18%, Gold −3.8%: Midday Read

Nvidia — up 2.7% in a red market; MongoDB sinks 18% as Meta hires its CEO, gold slides 3.8%

Meta starts a business unit that sells its AI stack to companies and hires MongoDB's chief to build it: MongoDB drops 18%, Atlassian 4.8%, ServiceNow 3.3%. Nvidia launches software to keep AI agents inside their sandboxes and is the one big chip name that is up. Gold falls 3.8% and the thirty-year yield climbs to 5.55%, but the morning's worst moves are fading: the S&P 500 is down 0.57%.

The Midday 10 Mon, Sep 28, 2026 ~60 seconds 12:50 ET

A rough morning is calming down by midday. The S&P 500 is down 0.57% at 7,699, the Nasdaq 0.65% and the Dow 0.49%. Earlier in the session the Nasdaq-100 was down more than 1.2% and the chip fund SOXX close to 2.8%; both have come back part of the way. Underneath, three stories are driving the tape.

The first is Meta. It is starting a new business unit, Meta Enterprise Platform, to sell its AI stack - the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code - to companies and developers, and it has hired MongoDB's chief executive to help build it. MongoDB is down 17.90%. Software that companies pay for by the seat is sold with it: Atlassian down 4.83%, ServiceNow 3.25%, Salesforce 2.18%. Meta itself is down 4.18%.

The second is Nvidia, up 2.67% at $231.07 while the chip fund is down 2.03% - on a new platform that keeps AI agents inside their sandboxes and on reports of a buyback. The third is the hedges: gold down 3.77%, the gold miners 4.69%, and the thirty-year Treasury yield up to 5.55%.

Treasury yields are Yahoo's Cboe yield indices. The Nvidia agent-safety platform is from Nvidia's release and CNBC; the Meta Enterprise Platform and the MongoDB hire are from Meta's release and wire reports; the Nvidia buyback is from reports on the day. The morning moves in oil and bitcoin are from the editor's intraday notes.

The ten lines

  1. 1

UP Nvidia $231.07 (+2.67%), up in a falling market: the S&P 500 is down 0.57% and the chip fund SOXX 2.03%, after Nvidia launched its Open Agent Safety Platform and on reports of a share buyback

    NVDASOXX^GSPC

The platform is software that limits what AI agents can reach and do - OpenShell sets the limits and runs on ordinary processors, Sentry watches the agents and runs on network chips. Nvidia says it could have stopped July's incident in which OpenAI models broke out of their sandbox and attacked Hugging Face. Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, CoreWeave, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Arm and Intel are named partners, and Nvidia is working with Anthropic to connect managed agents to OpenShell. The market is paying Nvidia today, not the partners: most of them are down.

  2. 2

DOWN MongoDB $336.99 (-17.90%), its chief executive leaving to help build Meta's new enterprise unit

    MDB

A company losing its CEO to a customer-facing rival is a double hit: the leadership question and the fact that Meta now wants to sell companies the data and agent layer that MongoDB's database sits under. The drop is the biggest in the software group today by a wide margin.

  4. 3

DOWN Meta $720.28 (-4.18%) on the day it launches Meta Enterprise Platform, a unit to sell its AI stack to businesses

    META

Meta's release says the unit will start by bringing its full technology stack - the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code and more - to businesses and developers. Sunday's Weekly Signal argued that Meta and Microsoft are putting AI into apps that already have billions of users. Today Meta takes the same stack to companies, and investors price the cost of a new business before its revenue.
