Palantir +27%, and the market buys back the exact corner it sold

The Midday 10 — the US midday tape

The Midday 10 · 12:30 ET · 2026-08-04

Broadly green, and the shape is the story: the semiconductor complex the tape spent two sessions selling is today's strongest thing, while yesterday's winners — the Mag names that closed the discount on Monday — sit flat to red. This is a broadening, not a rotation.

US midday, intraday quotes (delayed)

  1. 1

UP Palantir — the referee gets paid

PLTR trades around 159.2, up close to 27% from Monday's 125.65 close — roughly double the after-hours reaction, and well through the descending line off the November high that had capped every rally since. Nine months of derating undone in one session on a quarter that grew 93% at a 62% adjusted operating margin.

  2. 2

UP The sold corner, bought back hardest

SOXX is up around 5.1% and SMH 4.3% — the strongest complex on the board. The names sold on Monday are the ones leading it: MRVL up about 10.7%, MU 6.0%, AVGO 4.8%, TXN 4.0%, WDC 3.1%, with MPWR back to flat. Yesterday's analog-and-memory casualties are today's bid.

  3. 3

DOWN Yesterday's leaders take the profit

MAGS is flat at +0.1% while XLK adds 3.7% — the cleanest single read on the day. Amazon is off about 2.5% the session after clearing a $3trn cap, Meta down 1.4%, Alphabet up only 0.4%; Microsoft holds +1.6% and Nvidia +1.6%. The Mag complex is the one thing not working.

Today in line 11: the frame this morning's edition published is being argued with by the afternoon tape — what it means when the corner you called abundant is bought back within a session, which of the two readings the book actually trades, why a 27% single-name move is the least useful number on the board, and what AMD tonight is now being asked to settle.

The privileged, actionable read — what we do, and at which level — is in line 11, for members only.
