The Midday 10 Wed, Oct 21, 2026 ~60 seconds 12:30 ET

By midday the market has done the opposite of hesitating into the heaviest reporting night of the quarter: it is buying the reporters. The Nasdaq-100 fund QQQ is up 1.1% at 725.64 — back above 720 and half a percent below the broken support line at 728.95 — while the Dow adds 0.3% and small caps 0.5%. The Philadelphia chip index leads at +1.8% to 11,489 after Seoul closed 3.3% higher with SK Hynix up 5.8%, completing the 48-hour round trip. And all five of tonight's reporters trade higher: Meta +2.4%, Tesla +3.6%, SAP +2.1%, Lam Research +1.1%, IBM +1.0%. Every point gained this afternoon raises the bar for tonight's reaction.

The ten lines

  1. 1

UP Nasdaq-100 — back above 720 at midday, the broken line at 728.95 in sight

    QQQ

QQQ trades at 725.64, up 1.1%, back above the round 720 it has closed under all week. The broken support line at 728.95 — resistance since the mid-October break — sits half a percent overhead. The S&P 500 adds 0.4%, the Dow 0.3%, small caps 0.5%: yesterday's script, a broad rally with tech sitting out, has flipped to a tech-led tape in one session. A close above 728.95 would be the first since the break; a fade from here, hours before five earnings reports, would read as positioning squared up rather than conviction.

  2. 2

    UP Chips — +1.8% as Seoul's buy-back goes global

    SOXXNVDATSM

The Philadelphia chip index trades at 11,489, up 1.8%, still about 21.5% below its 22 June record. The bid is broad: the semiconductor ETF SOXX gains 1.9%, fabless semis 2.3%, cloud 2.4%, Nvidia 1.8% to 220.39. It follows Seoul's close: the Kospi finished up 3.3% at 5,736 and SK Hynix up 5.8% — the names that led Tuesday's selling finished Wednesday's buying, a full round trip in 48 hours. TSMC, whose record quarter scored flat on our card yesterday, adds 0.7% to 428.06.

  4. 3

PRINT Tonight's five — all bought into their own prints

    METATSLAIBMSAPLRCX

Every one of tonight's reporters trades higher at midday: Meta +2.4% to 711.22, Tesla +3.6% to 387.00, SAP +2.1% to 233.78, Lam Research +1.1% to 266.32, IBM +1.0% to 244.32. Consensus carries about $63.3 billion and $6.54 per share for Meta, $28.1 billion and $0.45 for Tesla. The windows open from tonight's closing prices — rewarded at +3%, punished at −3%, graded at Monday's close. A rally into the report raises the bar: this season has paid low expectations and given the admired names nothing, and the tape is spending the afternoon raising expectations.
